MasterCam CNC Programmer

The MasterCam CNC Programmer is responsible for creating the programs required to run and optimize GSM’s full range of 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining centers. In this position, the Programmer will set up machines according to job specifications to efficiently produce high quality parts.

This job description is intended to be a brief overview of primary responsibilities for this position. All employees are charged with providing assistance in generally similar duties when management deems it necessary.

Key Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of the MasterCam CNC Programmer are to:

  • Create programs to set up and run multi-axis CNC vertical mills and lathes
  • Use CADCAM software to create CNC programs
  • Assist with the inspection of all machined components post machining to assure compliance to specifications
  • Work with the Engineers to provide input on design for manufacturing

Qualifications and Competencies

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to produce coherent written documents that are free of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, possess a reasonably optimistic and supportive attitude, and maintain the strictest confidence regarding all issues and information regarding the company’s operations, its employees, financial matters, and personal matters of which the employee may become aware in the course of their work. 

  • Excellent machining and spatial aptitude required
  • High competency in blueprint reading – 6 D & T and finish specifications
  • Able to work extended hours as requested to complete critical projects
  • Provide information as needed to the toolmakers for efficient fabrication of required tooling
  • Excellent ability to use CADCAM software
  • Competence using Plex or other ERP system
  • Competence using 3D CAD software

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-year Associates Degree in an Engineering or Technical program preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a fast paced machine shop or similar fabricating environment
  • Demonstrated ability to use CADCAM software to generate machining programs
  • Ability to set up and machine complex parts

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly or occasionally required to meet the following physical demands:

  • Ability to problem solve at the machine work center when needed
  • Speak clearly and understandably, with a pleasant tone of voice and manner
  • Hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication and communication on a manufacturing floor environment
  • See a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
  • Type at a keyboard without discomfort for some of the working day
  • Able to manage stairs and move around the office environment and manufacturing floor comfortably in order to fulfill tasks required in various offices and departments
  • Able to travel by commercial or private plane, car, or train to either GSM or training locations without undue stress.
