Robotic Welding Programmer

The  is responsible for creating off line programs required to run GSM’s robotic weld systems. In this position, they will also create welding process improvements, document processes and provide technical support.

This job description is intended to be a brief overview of primary responsibilities for this position. All employees are charged with providing assistance in generally similar duties when management deems it necessary.

Key Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of the Robotic Welding Programmer are to:

  • Program all new and current robotic weld parts to optimize the production process
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date work instructions and documentation required for the efficient operation of robotic weld cells.
  • Provide insight into improving process flow and efficiency
  • Assist with training new and current operators to safely and effectively operate robotic welding equipment and tools
  • Minimize cycle time through careful programming
  • Provide information to the toolmakers for efficient fabrication of required tooling

Qualifications and Competencies

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to produce coherent written documents that are free of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, possess a reasonably optimistic and supportive attitude, and maintain the strictest confidence regarding all issues and information regarding the company’s operations, its employees, financial matters, and personal matters of which the employee may become aware in the course of their work. 

  • Excellent mechanical and robotic aptitude required
  • Knowledge of ANSI/AWS D1.1 Structural Weld Codes
  • High competency in blueprint reading
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Able to work extended hours as requested to complete critical projects
  • Provide information to toolmakers for efficient fabrication of required tooling
  • Competence using SolidWorks 3D CAD
  • Off-line programming using WeldPro software
  • Competence using Plex ERP system

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-year Associates Degree in an Engineering or Technical program preferred

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in the metal fabrication industry with responsibility for the support, operation, maintenance and specification of equipment used in welding processes, with an emphasis on robotic weld technology. 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly or occasionally required to meet the following physical demands:

  • Ability to problem solve at the machine work center when needed
  • Speak clearly and understandably, with a pleasant tone of voice and manner
  • Hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication and communication on a manufacturing floor environment
  • See a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
  • Type at a keyboard without discomfort for some of the working day
  • Able to manage stairs and move around the office environment and manufacturing floor comfortably in order to fulfill tasks required in various offices and departments
  • Able to travel by commercial or private plane, car, or train to either GSM or training locations without undue stress.
