Distribution (WIP) Supervisor

40K to 50K

The Work in Process Distribution Supervisor is responsible for efficiently managing work in process inventory flow by ensuring that parts needed for processes arrive as soon as they are available to move and that minimum container storage levels are maintained in proper locations and delivered to the delight of our operators as needed.

Key Responsibilities and Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Work in Process Distribution Supervisor is to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work area while managing labor, equipment, tooling, and work flow in order to ensure on time completion of production schedules.  This includes conducting effective team meetings at the start of shift to communicate opportunities, explain challenges, listen to feedback, and remove obstacles.  You will develop employee’s skills by listening, teaching, and mentoring your team members as well as assessing benchmark skills.

To achieve success in this role, the supervisor must:

  • Directly and attentively supervises Work in Process Distribution Team members
  • Plans and requisitions labor in collaboration with the Shift Manager to ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet production requirements
  • Conducts interviews for open positions
  • Evaluates employee performance and develop plans for improved performance
  • Reviews attendance records and approves
  • Approves employee vacations to ensure the needs of the company are never at risk
  • Conducts incident reporting, root cause analysis and a plan for improvement and prevention of future occurrence
  • Identifies and safely stores all WIP inventoried items in a manner which affords easy access and minimizes waste
  • Communicates management directives and company information to employees
  • Recommends equipment purchases to improve or expand capabilities of the department
  • Utilizes ERP system to reconcile inventories, review production schedules
  • Informs the Supply Chain Manager of non- conforming material or issues with supplier documentation
  • Communicates and maintains the safety, quality, and cleanliness standards set for the department
  • Ensures preventative maintenance and inspection schedules are followed on all assigned equipment
  • Creates work orders when equipment is not performing safely or optimally
  • Ensures that all employees have the necessary tools and training to maximize their productivity
  • Recommends and participates in continuous improvement activities as requested
  • Maintains forklift train the trainer certification
  • Teaches forklift skills to GSM team members
  • Occasionally backfills Work In Process Team positions as needed

Qualifications and Competencies

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to follow up on assigned projects and train skill to ensure completion.   

The individual will also maintain competency with the following programs and equipment:

  • Microsoft Office
  • ERP and Quality systems
  • Laptop, tablet and/or desktop computer
  • Cellular and office telephone system
  • 2 Way Radio

Education

Supervisor certification (preferred)

High School graduate

Experience

2-5 years of supervising experience in Shipping Receiving or Inventory Control positons preferred

Required working knowledge of:

Inventory systems
