Press Brake Trainer/Certified Machine Skills Instructor

The Certified Machine Skills Instructor is charged with providing expert instruction in the optimization of fabrication equipment and processes, safety practices and procedures, care and use of inspection tools and preventative maintenance and work place hygiene. The introduction of new technologies, equipment and processes will require the CMSI to achieve competency in these areas by participating in training and educational programs. The CMSI will collaborate with the Manufacturing Engineer, Supervisor and Curriculum Development Specialists to ensure the curriculum is always in alignment to support the current and future needs of the department.   

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Certified Machine Skill Instructor is to ensure the readiness of new hires prior to their assumption of duties in Press Brake work center. The Certified Machine Skills instructor will collaborate with the shift supervisor to determine additional training that may be required for all team members.   

Other responsibilities specific to this position include:

  • Comprehensive instruction in the operation of Electric and Hydraulic CNC Press Brakes
  • Train new hires in the use and care of inspection equipment and tools
  • Provide focused re-training as instructed by supervisor.
  • Positive role model always demonstrating safety, quality and predictable results during instruction and execution
  • Provide training in performing operator preventative maintenance and work place hygiene
  • Collaborate with Curriculum Development Specialist to ensure training documents reflect current state processes
  • Collaborate with supervisors, shift managers, and employees to improve processes where possible
  • Watch for opportunities to incorporate needed safety procedures into training documents whenever possible
  • Instruct new hires using elegant training documents (Safety, QA & Best Practices for Machine operation) and designated tools
  • Receive factory training on all new equipment and technologies
  • Decrease time from onboard to certification process
  • Certify new hires according to established standards
  • Ongoing benchmark evaluation
  • Assist in developing successful candidate standards to ensure right fit in positions
  • Mentoring existing and sponsoring new hires
  • Monitoring and communicating new hire progress with supervisors, HR and Curriculum Development Specialist   

Qualifications and Competencies

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to produce coherent written documents, demonstrate an optimistic and supportive attitude, and maintain the strictest confidence regarding all issues and information regarding the company’s operations, its employee, and personal matters of which the employee may become aware in the course of their work.


  • Comprehensive knowledge of Electric and Hydraulic CNC Press Brake operation, tooling, safety devices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blue prints
  • Demonstrated ability to use company ERP and Quality Systems software


4 Year degree preferred or minimum extensive operator experience in press brake operation, safety procedures,inspection processes,preventative maintenance and work place hygiene standards (internal candidates level 3)


Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CNC controlled Press Brakes
